The Prohibition era series “Boardwalk Empire” was the big winner in the television category, with wins including Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama – Steve Buscemi.

Look for the upcoming HBO five hour mini-series, starring Kate Winslet. She plays the part, originally made famous by Joan Crawford, in the 1945 film which won her the Best Actress Oscar. Hudson recreated an entire set of 1940’s era awnings, which meant researching the fabrics, styles, frames and designs of that period.

Boardwalk Empire (HBO, Sundays, 9 p.m. E.T.), the best new drama of the year, is the sweeping birth story of that myth, centering on Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the man who kept Atlantic City wet.
